General Planning Requirements

Much of the township of Old Noarlunga is recognised as Historic and has restrictions on building and activities that are allowed . The preservation of the townships historic value and its ambience is required when building or making changes to existing dwellings in the town.

In parts of the town there are no double storey buildings allowed or subdivision of land etc. The main street has been listed as historic as are many of the buildings.

While recent changes to planning legislation has seen major project fast tracking through state planning authority. (go there)  Many of the traditional council required planning permissions have been changed to exclude requirements to apply to council for roller doors and some types of structures. However you should always contact council before starting any project .Old Noarlunga has several different zoning rules and regulations and the Onkaparinga Council planning dept. can help in understanding these.

The local council site has the new requirements listing and exclusions.
